‘Lea Birringer’s tonal radiance and sparkling articulation captivate the senses’

– The Strad-

Verve, passion, and ‘full-blooded commitment’ (Gramophone) are the qualities most often associated with Lea Birringer. Hailed as ‘one of the most talented violinists of her generation’ (Pizzicato), she captivates audiences as a soloist with orchestras, in recitals with piano, and as part of various chamber music ensembles alongside distinguished musical partners.

As a young student, Lea Birringer attracted attention with her debut at the Berlin Philharmonie. During her studies with Igor Ozim in Salzburg and Pavel Vernikov in Vienna, she established herself as a prize-winner at numerous international competitions. Today, she is in high demand as both a soloist and chamber musician, regularly performing at prestigious festivals and with renowned orchestras, including the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Staatskapelle Weimar, Staatskapelle Halle, Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, Polska Filharmonia Bałtycka, and Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma.

As the winner of the 15th International Johannes Brahms Competition, she has appeared in some of the world’s most distinguished concert halls, such as the Musikverein Vienna, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg and the Louvre in Paris. In recognition of her artistic achievements, she was awarded the Cultural Prize of the City Association of Saarbrücken.

In addition to her solo career, Lea Birringer is a dedicated chamber musician and has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Igor Levit, Wen-Sinn Yang, and Barbara Bonney. She frequently performs with her sister, Esther, and their joint recordings have received widespread critical acclaim.

Lea Birringer has held teaching positions at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (Sion) and the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar. In 2024, she was appointed Professor at the University of Music Würzburg.

In contrast to their debut album of sonatas by Franck & Grieg (RCD1007), violinist Lea Birringer with her pianist sister Esther offer a sparkling virtuosic recital of some of the most famous showpieces for violin and piano in the repertoire. From serious to light-hearted, these works are a test of a violinist’s technical prowess as well as being great fun to listen to – especially when performed with such artistry as displayed on this new album.
