Hélène de Montgeroult, one of the founder members of the Paris Conservatoire, was a key figure in the development of the piano and piano technique in the early romantic period. She became the institution’s first professor of piano and toured Europe extensively with violin virtuoso Giovanni Battista Viotti. Montgeroult’s Études influenced Mendelssohn and Schumann and she also partnered with virtuosos such as Kreutzer and Baillot.

Ian Buckle enjoys a varied performing career working as soloist, accompanist, chamber musician and orchestral pianist. He has done much to champion the music of Montgeroult. His previous Montgeroult digital EP (DRC1084) is available to stream on all the major platforms.
