Since winning the 2021 Song Prize at the Cardiff Singer of the World competition, South African Masabane Cecilia has been selected as a BBC New Generation Artist, and in 2024 was awarded the Herbert von Karajan prize. She is in demand with the world’s major orchestras, opera houses and conductors.
This, her debut album, showcases her extraordinary voice and versatility. It includes music from her homeland, gospels and spirituals, lieder and chanson, and two operatic favourites. The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady provide two favourite numbers, and ‘Summertime’ from Porgy & Bess is spine tinglingly beautiful.
Masabane is accompanied by Aron Goldin, described by Opera Today as ‘an eloquent and responsive pianist who beautifully shapes the melody and provides nuanced drama’. Aron has accompanied some of the finest singers of his generation – including Ian Bostridge, Mary Bevan, Jennifer France, and James Atkinson – and has shared the stage with artists ranging from soprano Patricia Petibon to actor Sir Simon Russell Beale. Aron’s debut album – Homelands – was released on Rubicon Classics in October 2023.
